Het Anker Brewery is a small brewery in Mechelen. It started out its operations in 1471 when Charles the Bold gave the sisters of Mechelen the permission to brew beers. The brewery was purchased by Louis Van Breedam in 1872. Malt has become one of the distinctive flavors of Het Anker beers followed by wheat, ales and lager. By the 1990s, the brewery has been producing different types of beers. Some of Het Anker Brewery’s specialty beers are the Dentergems White Beer and Cuvée van de Keizer. Het Anker Brewery features the use of water with wheat starch and variety of malts in its brew room.
